Oceanus

Great bodies of water shape the earth and the lives of animals within, on land, and above.

Featuring the work of Michael McWeeney, Donna Napoli-Steele, Captain Bill Schuppman, and Sarah Yuster,  OCEANUS is a collection of these artists’ visceral responses, their personal statements via their work on this enormous, universal entity–the sea.

Photographs and oil paintings with urban interruption of shorelines, industry, and transportation interplay with beach, harbor scenes, and atmospheric, quiet images from the vantage point of sailing.

Sculptures on large and small scale celebrate marine life, nodding towards our human responsibility for stewardship and conservation. Exacting, intricate ceramics of wave patterns have been created by a shipman with intimate knowledge of the world’s oceans, currents, and tides.

The breadth of this presentation echos experiences of the broader populace and perhaps, through aesthetics and ingenuity, piques more interest, expanding margins of engagement.
